DimensionsClick here for dimensions. , PML pan is about 2 inches deeper than stock pan

Number of Bolts: 6

Gasket Information: Because of the flat gasket sealing surface, a PML custom cork composite gasket is provided with each pan. The PML pan will not work with the OEM gasket and the OEM pan will not work with a PML gasket. Additional PML 722.9/NAG2 gaskets are available.

Benefits of PML 722.9 transmission pan:

  • Fins and extra capacity to keep fluid cooler
  • Drain hole separate from level check for easy servicing and magnetic drain plug included
  • Heavy duty, quality sand cast aluminum construction for strength and a leak-free seal
  • Fluid level check has M12x1.5 threads for compatibility with fluid pump adapters, such as ATF109
  • Provision on side of pan for attaching cables or brackets similar to OEM pans
  • New mounting hardware provided
  • Boss for optional temperature sending unit
  • Does not use formed gasket or retaining clips, custom cork gasket and new mounting bolts provided with pan
  • Flat gasket sealing surface, thick flange, and custom PML gasket to eliminate warping and tweaking

The 722.9 NAG2 transmission is found in many Mercedes-Benz cars and vans and in 2012 and newer Sprinter vans. Configurations vary and other transmissions are possible. Verify transmission and space available for a larger pan before ordering.

4WD vehicles: Be sure to check the routing of the drive shaft.

Gasket

PML makes a custom cork composite gasket for this transmission pan. One gasket is included with each pan. Additional gaskets are available: PML NAG2/722.9 Gasket

PML NAG2/722.9 pans are not compatible with the OEM gasket. OEM pans are not compatible with PML gaskets.

PML designed the transmission pan with a thick and machined flat surface to maximized the sealing area. The PML pan will not tweak or deform. The thick flange and bolts maintain even pressure on the housing for a secure seal. Retaining clips used with the OEM pan can cause deforming and tweaking of the OEM pan leading to fluid leaks.

Included with PML Transmission Pan

PML includes a custom gasket, brass fitting to raise the fluid level check above the flange, magnetic drain plug with copper sealing washer, new mounting bolts and washer and a button screw for attaching a bracket (if needed).

The PML pan does not use a retaining clip system to hold the gasket and pan on to the transmission housing. The retaining clip system can be difficult to use and people have reported that it warped the OEM pan, causing leaks. Using bolts on the thick flange on the PML pan improves sealing, minimizing leaks.

Fluid Level Check

The PML pan level check/fill hole has M12-1.5 threads for compatibility with ATF109 adapters for fluid pumps. The drain is a separate hole on the driver/left side of the PML pan at the bottom.

On the inside, the top of the level check on the PML pan should be the same as the top of the level check on the OEM pan in relation to the flange. There are two OEM pans we know of. One has the level check at the same level as the flange and the other has a level check above the flange.

The PML pan includes fittings so that the fluid level check standoff pipe in the PML pan matches the stock pan.

These pictures show:

Filter

The PML 722.9 NAG2 transmission pan works with the OEM filter, including the new Smart Filter. The PML pan has supports cast into the bottom to hold the filter in place.

PML designed the pan so that the fluid dynamics of the transmission are not change. The fluid pickup and checking the fluid level are the same with the PML pan as with the OEM pan.

Drain, Fill/Level Check, Optional Temperature Sending Unit Locations

The drain and fill/level check are two separate holes and are on the driver/left side of the transmission pan. On the passenger/right side of the pan, there is a threaded hole on a little tab for attaching a metal shield found on many vehicles.

This PML transmission pan has two possible locations for an aftermarket temperature sending unit. One is on the passenger side and one is on the driver side. These bosses are unmachined. Optionally, PML can drill and tap one of the bosses. There is a custom machining charge for this service. The default size is 1/8 NPT. Verify the thread specification of your temperature sending unit and contact us if a different size is needed. Select this option when ordering. This would be for an aftermarket temperature gage.

Shield

Many 722.9 NAG2 transmissions have a small shield attached to the right front corner. In this picture, the shield is circled in red.

The PML pan works with this shield. The shield attaches to the PML pan at the tab on the front passenger/right side corner of the PML pan. This tab has a threaded hole and a screw is included for attaching the shield to the PML pan.

Transmission and OEM and PML Transmission Pans

The 722.9 transmission pan and gasket attached to the transmission with a retaining clip and bolt. The retaining clip system can warp the pan and lead to leaks. The PML pan has a flat flange mating surface and cork gasket and bolts on without the clips.
