Although they lack the technology and precision that a modern Hi-Stall converter and transbrake tranny can offer, there is still a desire to have one of these kits.

Dynamic Racing Transmissions is proud to announce the relaunch of the Clutch Hydro! Each kit has been designed to enable the transmission rebuilder to recreate a Clutch Hydro Transmission.
What Is A Clutch Hydro?
Back in the 60's and 70's, before the torque converter technology we have today, racers combined the variable launch rpm of a manual clutch with the instant shift capabilities of the automatic transmission. Once the clutch pedal was released, it was never touched again until you wanted to stop. The shift functions are controlled by a reverse manual valve body via a gate type shifter.
These kits became obsolete with the introduction of the hi-stall torque converter. The Clutch Hydro was very hard on driveline parts due to its instant lock-up feature. The new converter designs better enabled racers to take advantage of the engine's torque curve. Being a fluid coupling, the converter is more forgiving on internal transmission parts and the drive line they are connected to. With the advent of the transbrake, you could get a similar launch as the Clutch Hydro but without the breakage.

These Kits are offered for nostalgia recreation race cars, era correct restorations and exhibition vehicles . They are not recommended for competition and/or street use due to the possibility of uncontrollable vehicle reactions and part breakage.
